Some examples of medical problems I have resolved:
- A 34-year-old woman with chronic urinary tract symptoms for years had repeatedly requested a urological evaluation but had been refused by her managed care primary physician. A review of her records documented numerous lower urinary tract infections with the possibility of one or two kidney infections. A conversation with her primary physician resulted in a urological evaluation.
- The family of an elderly nursing home patient was concerned because of what they perceived as a lack of communication between all of the parties, the quality of professional care, and the familys financial responsibilities. A visit to the nursing home and a record review revealed standard professional care. A second visit with the family and the nursing staff opened the lines of communication between all of the parties. Finally, additional financial and insurance information led to a readjustment of the familys nursing home costs.
- A 52-year-old on chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer wanted to use various alternative medical regimes (nutrition, meditation, herbs, and acupuncture, etc.) that her physicians strongly discouraged. She had read about these programs and had discussed them with her family and friends. She was not going to abandon mainstream medicine. A call to her physician resulted in his reading about these alternative programs. A meeting with the involved parties resulted in the utilization of these alternative treatments.
